With Job Description

Job-specific resume analysis

Paste the role description when you want to understand how closely your resume matches a real opening. This mode is best before applying to a specific company or tailoring your resume for a particular role.

When a job description is included, the analyzer treats the resume as an application for that role. It looks for required and preferred skills, seniority clues, domain language, responsibilities, certifications, tools, and measurable outcomes that match the posting. If the job asks for React, Node.js, REST APIs, AWS, PostgreSQL, ownership of production systems, or stakeholder communication, the report checks whether those signals appear in the resume in a believable way.

This is where the score becomes more personalized. A resume can be well-written and still score lower for a job if the posting asks for a stack or responsibility that is missing. The goal is not to stuff keywords into the resume. The goal is to add truthful language in the right places: summary, skills, recent experience, project descriptions, and achievement bullets.

The result highlights matched keywords, missing keywords, recommended keywords, role-fit notes, and the highest-priority improvements. You can use it to decide whether your resume needs a small polish or a deeper rewrite for that role.

Without Job Description

General ATS health check

Leave the job description empty when you want a broad resume quality review. This is best when you are building a base resume or checking whether the document is ATS-friendly before tailoring it.

Without a job description, the analyzer cannot know the exact target company requirements. Instead, it checks universal resume fundamentals: readable text, contact details, standard sections, skill clarity, experience depth, project evidence, education visibility, action verbs, and measurable impact. This gives you a general resume score, not a job-match score.

This mode is especially helpful for freshers, students, career switchers, and candidates who are still deciding which roles to target. It can show whether your resume has enough evidence for ATS systems and recruiters to understand your profile. If it finds missing contact details, weak section labels, vague skills, or responsibility-only bullets, you get a practical action plan.

After your base resume is healthy, use the job-description mode before sending applications. That second pass catches fit gaps that a general score cannot see.

ATS-Friendly Resume

What ATS-friendly really means

A strong ATS-friendly resume is not a keyword dump and it is not a lifeless plain document. It is a resume where parsing software and human recruiters can both find the right evidence quickly.

Applicant tracking systems help employers collect, organize, search, filter, and review applications. Some systems parse resumes into fields, some search for keywords, and some help recruiters compare candidate profiles. Because every company configures its workflow differently, no resume checker can promise the exact score used by a real employer. What a good analyzer can do is identify the signals that usually matter: whether your resume text is readable, whether your skills match the role, whether your bullets show proof, and whether the structure makes sense.

The most common resume mistake is confusing design with clarity. A beautiful resume can fail if the text is trapped in images, columns are parsed in the wrong order, headings are unusual, dates are unclear, or key skills are buried inside long paragraphs. Another common mistake is writing bullets that describe tasks without showing result. For example, "Worked on APIs" is much weaker than a truthful bullet that says what API you built, which technology you used, what problem it solved, and what changed after it shipped.

Keyword strategy matters, but keywords need evidence. If the job description asks for SQL, add SQL only if you can explain where you used it. If the role asks for stakeholder communication, include a bullet about gathering requirements, presenting insights, supporting users, or coordinating delivery only if that happened. Recruiters notice when a resume says "expert" everywhere but gives no proof.

Resume Checklist

Use this checklist before you apply

The analyzer gives a personalized report, but these fundamentals are useful for almost every candidate.

Use readable text

Upload a text-based PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, or TXT file. Scanned image resumes are harder for resume parsers and ATS systems to read.

Keep the header simple

Name, email, phone, LinkedIn, portfolio, and location should be text, not hidden inside images, icons, or decorative layouts.

Write a targeted summary

Use the top section to connect the target role, strongest skills, experience level, and best evidence in three or four lines.

Group skills by relevance

Separate languages, frameworks, cloud tools, databases, testing tools, analytics tools, design tools, or domain skills so recruiters can scan quickly.

Rewrite duties into proof

Replace passive responsibility lists with bullets that include action, tool, scope, and measurable outcome.

Mirror the job description truthfully

If the job asks for Spring Boot, React, AWS, SQL, stakeholder management, or security, include those words only where your actual experience supports them.

Avoid keyword stuffing

Adding a block of disconnected keywords may help neither ATS nor recruiters. Keywords work best when they appear in skills and in real experience bullets.

Make projects interview-ready

For freshers and switchers, projects should show problem, tech stack, contribution, result, and what you can explain in an interview.

Privacy

We do not store resumes from the free analyzer

Resume analysis requires sensitive career information, so the no-login flow is intentionally simple: upload, analyze, return the report. AssessArc does not create an account, does not ask users to log in, and does not store the resume or pasted job description from this free analyzer. If you later choose to create an AssessArc account for AI mock interviews, that is a separate authenticated product flow.

Questions

Resume analyzer FAQ

Clear answers before you upload.

Is this a real ATS score?

It is an estimated ATS score. Real ATS platforms, company filters, recruiter workflows, and job-specific ranking models vary. AssessArc gives a practical resume health and match report so you can improve before applying.

Do I need to log in?

No. The free resume analyzer works without login. You can upload a resume, optionally paste a job description, and view the report in the browser.

Do you store my resume?

No. The analyzer processes the file for the current request and does not store your resume or job description. The report is returned to your browser after analysis.

What file types are supported?

You can upload PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, or TXT files up to 5MB. Text-based files work best because the analyzer must extract readable resume content.

Should I paste a job description?

Yes, if you want a job-specific match score. A job description lets the analyzer compare your resume against required skills, tools, responsibilities, seniority, and role language.

What happens if I do not paste a job description?

The analyzer produces a general ATS resume health score. It reviews formatting, contact details, sections, skills, experience clarity, achievements, and writing impact.

Can this rewrite my resume for me?

The report gives rewrite ideas and safe templates, but it does not invent experience. You should only add skills, metrics, projects, and achievements that are true.

Is this useful for freshers?

Yes. Freshers can use it to check whether projects, education, skills, internships, certifications, and entry-level keywords are visible and recruiter-friendly.
